A New Year's Thank You

It's been a great year. Tough, full of fun, and just outright strange at times, but looking past all of the rough patches, 2014 was a year that I'll look back on and smile.

I enjoy my relative anonymity on the Internet, and so I shall not delve too deeply into my personal life here. Besides, what I really want to say is this:

Thank you!

Featured Website Contest: December's Winner

Last week, the first run of the FWC was announced. One week isn't a very long time to gather entries, but we needed to get our first winning website up and displayed. Normally, these contests will run for an entire month.

But anyway, let's get to the results!

Show Off Your Blog!

Edit (5/23/17): My blog buttons page has been renamed "Button Swap" (formerly "Blog Buttons") and can now be found at the end of my About page. Edited this post to reflect the changes.

I love finding great new blogs to read, don't you? Of course you do - just like everyone else.

I've created a new page specifically to show off others' blog buttons, the images that they've created to represent their blogs. These buttons are easily traded between bloggers so that readers like you can discover new websites simply by looking through a list of clickable buttons. Neat, huh?

You Have Not Failed Award

Picture
Nominated by KR

Oh boy. So many tags going around these last couple of weeks! I apologize for not posting much other than these tags lately (I think I've gotten, what, one post that wasn't an award or tag up within the last week?), it's been a busy few days.

But, with that said, we have another new tag that was just introduced to the blogosphere! And, just like all these others, the purpose of this one is really quite sweet. KR from Sweet as a Rose (isn't she?) created this award to help out girls who, for whatever reason, may need a little boost in their confidence, or just to know that they're appreciated, strong, and are just as important as anyone else.. And truly, you are.

Stahp Ur Too Sweet for Ur Own Good Award

Ah, Marshall...
Nominated by Kelsey and KR

Edited (11/20/14): Added another nomination by KR.

You've got to love the memes of the Internet. They're just so silly, and even unique—or so unoriginal that it seems unique. Either way, they're good for a laugh.

Wonderful Kelsey over at Empty Boxes got inspired to create an award of her own, and this is what she came up with. The point of this award is to recognize the amazing bloggers that, quoted straight from Kelsey herself, are "too sweet; whether it's the comments they leave or the things they say in their posts." Well, I like it! It's a great idea. :) She was nice enough to nominate me in her post, and so here we are. KR from the lovely Sweet as a Rose blog also nominated me.

Famous People Tag: Yippee!

Well, a couple of days after creating my own blog award to give to others, I get nominated for the Famous People Tag. Sweet! The lovely person who has so kindly tagged me would be none-other-than miss Adaline over at AG In The Shire. Thank you very much, Adi!

Also, I apologize to everyone else for clogging up your blog feeds with "Here, have an award!" and "Look! I got an award!" That's how it goes, though, right? Never rains, it pours.

Alright. So, let's take a look at the rules here...

Thanks Adaline! :)

Blogger Recognition Award - Celebrate Bloggers!

Updated 5/26/16
As it has been over a year now since I first published this, I've cleaned the writing up a bit and updated the guidelines! :)

Blogging has changed our world. Like the Internet as a whole, it's changed the way we communicate, exchange information, and simply how we spend our time. People from all walks of life can create a blog and work their way into having a dedicated readership, or just experiment with the freedom it gives. Talented minds, famous names, ordinary people - every single one of us has the chance to be heard. To be part of a global community. This is the blogosphere, the blogging world, and each individual blogger helps to make it what it is.

So, why not celebrate this wonderful thing? Not just blogging; but celebrate the bloggers themselves. The folks who share with us their talents and interests, their photography and stories and art, their views and opinions; the people who come here to vent their frustrations with life, and the people who want to make us laugh and smile. Because without them, this diverse, free, and fun thing wouldn't be possible.

Now, how shall we celebrate? With an award, of course!

Welcome to Edge of Night

Edit (5/23/2017): Changed some things. :)

A hearty hello to my visitors here, and a major welcome to Edge of Night!

You'll find here plenty of poems, short stories, and other fun little things that I felt like posting. The topics I write about are not specific - nor are the styles or genres. I like to experiment with a little bit of everything. Some are personal, most aren't. You'll find a lot of crap, and you'll notice that I continue to work on pieces long after I post them. Nothing's ever truly finished in the writing world, so think of everything here as in the draft stage.

I've received some very helpful feedback from my readers over these last few years, and I truly appreciate that. I take criticism in stride, and one of my goals here is and has always been to improve my writing abilities. I can't do that if I don't know what's wrong in the first place, and I am bound to miss things after staring at the same string of words for hours on end. This means that I view your comments as invaluable.

With that said, we all have different tastes and opinions. It would be impossible for me to incorporate every suggested revision, every proposed idea, and maintain my own vision. However, I will always listen. I may or may not act on your suggestions, depending on how I feel they fit with the piece and what I personally want out of it - but don't let my inaction discourage you from sharing your ideas with me, because I want to hear them, and I do give consideration to each. Writers are picky folk, and sometimes I stick stubbornly to my own lines. I ask that you not take this to heart, that you understand that I'm not ignoring your comments; I hear them, and please don't hesitate if you have any feedback of your own, be it positive or negative.

To my fellow writers-in-progress, don't give up! Keep at it. To anyone wanting to write but afraid to start, jump in! Just go for it. Sometimes you just have to dive right in.You're always learning as a writer, and I've found there's no better way to improve yourself than to just start writing. Embrace experimentation, use criticism to your advantage, and write, write, write! You'll find your style, your place. You're bound only by the limits of your own imagination. Time to see where it takes you.

Eve
