September 5th Q&A Recap

Thank you to everyone who participated in my live Twitter session tonight! I wasn't expecting many questions, and so there were more than I expected. But it's amazing to me that I even had the opportunity to do something like this. Never thought I'd host something like a Q&A and have have very few cricket moments.

Below you can find a recap of the main points of the Twitter session. Past that, you'll find the additional questions that were submitted via the form in my previous Q&A post. Enjoy!

Twitter Session

The following tweets come from Uma, whose Twitter account has restricted tweets. This prevents retweets and embedding, so I've added in screenshots (omitting Uma's username to retain his privacy).

------------------------------------------------------

That covers the key points of the session, I believe. If you take a look at my Twitter profile you'll find some side chatting that wasn't included in here.

Being the Twitter noob that I am, and this being my first Q&A, it was a little messy! However, I'm pleased with how it all went, and I hope some of you got a question or two answered.

Additional Questions

Here are the questions submitted by readers who couldn't make it to the live session!

1. What inspired you to make a blog? — Arushee

This has sort of a long answer.

The inspiration to make a blog popped up a couple of years before I actually did anything. I wanted to give the blogging world a try, but there were several things that made me hesitant.

When I finally decided to go ahead and do it, I first wrote about the different countries and cultures of the world. I love that stuff, and it was great fun to write and research. But the amount of research needed for each post tired me out after a few months, and I lost motivation. I still wanted to blog, though, and I tried out two other topics that didn't last long.

Edge of Night came into being when I continued wanting to blog, but not in any of my previous areas. I wanted something that would allow me to be myself, and yet remain fairly anonymous; that I could post to without doing enormous amounts of research; and something that I knew I would have stronger motivation for. One night while playing with a random, meaningless poem in Word, a new burst of inspiration hit me and I went off to create a writing blog!

2. I love the atmosphere of your poem "Moonlit Shore." What inspired it?

First of all, I'm so glad you enjoy it. Second, I believe the idea for that one sparked when I was in the middle of "Message in a Bottle." Being about a bottle washing up on a shore, I was wanting to describe the beach in a way that didn't really fit the simple, ah, "theme" I guess. The fantasy-lover in me kept picturing these beautiful, relaxing, scenic shores lit by the moon, and a short phrase led me to create an entirely new poem: "Footprints in the sand."

3. How long have you been blogging?

Total? About 2 years or so, with a lengthy break in there somewhere. But nearly 1 steady year with Edge of Night. :)

Alrighty! That wraps up my first Q&A. Thanks again for all your questions!
