Poem: "Had I Known"

Had I Known
By: Eve Estelle

Had I known it'd be the last time that I'd see or hear your voice,
I'd have cherished every word, and helped you to rejoice.

Had I known it'd be the last time that I'd hear you sing a song,
I'd have listened so closely, and helped you sing along.

Had I known, oh had I known, I would've done things so differently;
Had I seen, had I listened, I would've helped you instantly.

Had I known it'd be the last time, I'd make sure to say "I love you,"
Had I known it'd be the last time, I'd say it until you knew.

Had I known that it'd be the last time that you'd walk through the door,
I'd call you back and hug you, just for once more.

Had I known that it'd be.. the last time you'd fall asleep,
I'd have been by your side, as you made that final leap.

    1. So true, Seema, it's unfortunate that it's that way sometimes. Things like these do make for good lessons, though, if you manage to learn from them. I live by that one saying.. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" ;)

  3. This is so beautiful. People should really think before they do something so they do not regret it in the end. Great work!

    1. Yes, they should! However, we all end up doing it in the end (sometimes more than once), so we've just got to learn from those all-too-common mistakes. Thank you Sammie! Certainly, I'll check out your link now. :)

  5. I can really sense the emotion, the line about saying I love you really has brought some feelings out. This brought up feelings of somebody that I greatly miss, and although it hurts I'm thankful to be reminded, So thank you!

    1. It's hard to read things like this sometimes, when it reminds you of someone. I'm sorry for your hurting, but I know just what you mean when you say you're thankful to be reminded. Thank you so very much for reading and for your comment. :)
