Poem: "The Diamond in the Rough"

The Diamond in the Rough
By: Eve Estelle

When caught is the eye,
Once tempted, we lie --
We've lost our way, we are shy --
Oh, look at me! This fancy run free,
I am no longer me --
What money can't buy,
I let go of to fly,
And I flew far too high,
With myself I now vie,
How broken am I,
Forsaken my worth;
I fall from the sky,
Back down to the earth.

Author's note:

Good evening to you! :) (Or <insert your time of day/night here>.) Just a quick piece today, which kind of materialized out of thin air after seeing the live-action remake of Aladdin the other day and hearing its new rendition of  the opening song,"Arabian Nights." Such a hauntingly-beautiful tune. :') I couldn't resist trying to write to its rhythm.
