Song of Sugar Plums
By: Eve Estelle
O hear!
Returned to thee, her splendid lands,
Those of scrumptious and fair delight --
Back to the realm of the Sugarline Lady,
On this warmest of eves in white;
By her smile lit are hearth and home,
The strength of Rome astir beneath;
Of winter's breath these plumentine wings,
Yet once known to none, ordinary --
Lo and behold, it's the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Of sweet confections, this kingdom born,
Crystalline waters and tastes adorn;
It was before machine and excess
That her namesake so fabled,
Gave pause to eyes that see no more
What was once worth its weight in gold;
Forgotten, hence, every tale told,
Till balance found one's way;
She sings with love, she sings with care,
She sings to those whose temperance may
Lend to them the diamond's eye --
See afore ye, its frosted beauty,
As exquisite as the sky;
Stand before me, recherché,
Silent in the sigh.
Author's note: Merry Christmas! A spontaneous winter-themed poem for you. Didn't go through and do much revising after penning the final line (hence, "spontaneous"), so it's not a particularly special one -- but it was fun! The Sugar Plum Fairy is currently one of those lovely characters that's well-known to most, but not overly used... A.K.A., the perfect holiday poem stuffer.

This is lovely!

Thank you, and Merry Christmas! :)
DeleteMerry Christmas, Eve! This was so nice to read; I especially love the last four lines. The way they differ from the rest of the poem is so lovely <3

Thank you, Eleanor! The last four were unexpected last-minute additions, and they're my favorite out of the whole thing. :) Merry Christmas to you!
