At Song's End
Ad Meliora Part I
By: Eve Estelle
I thank thee for all thou hast done --
Blessed be, whither you go,
A tear is shed at morning's crow;
What miracle, our stars aligned,
Best gifts exchanged in passing; lo,
Depart, it's time,
The final note is played --
Foundations strong and laid to last,
Impressed 'pon us, thy peerless cast.
Author's note: "Ad Meliora" is the collective title for a three-part series of poems. Check out the others below!

➤ Part I: "At Song's End"
Part II: "The Hunt for Azure"
Part III: "A Star on Fire"
-----------------------------------
This was quite an ambitious project for me, considering I have a bad habit of not finishing works that have more than one part lol. It was also a personal one, though -- sparked by the conclusion of phase one of my new job, saying farewell to some wonderful people I really, truly liked, and moving on to larger, better things. Also by my own internal conflicts, hopes, and other feelings. (That always makes a project easier!)
"Ad meliora" is a Latin phrase meaning "(onward) towards better things."
This was really beautiful--so looking forward to the other parts in the series!

Thank you so much, Kathryn! I'm really, really excited to have all three of these finished and ready to go -- I hope the next two live up to your expectations! ^^
DeleteI really like this! I enjoy reading your style of poetry so much since it's not something that a lot of poets are writing these days.

That's actually really awesome to hear, because I often feel like what I'm writing, while fun, is still pretty cliche and typical of many poets lol. Thank you! <3
DeleteReally enjoyed reading this poem. Can't wait to read the others.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it, Raney! :D I hope you enjoy the next two!
