Poem: "The Hunt for Azure" (Part 2 / 3, "Ad Meliora")

The Hunt for Azure
Ad Meliora Part II
By: Eve Estelle

Released upon the world,
From your grasp, into the fire,
Given wings of faith to fly;
With your blessing, from the smoke,
To the august heights of heaven, I
Seize this gift of flight and seek
The star that bears my name above;
Still spring it may, my ship, a leak,
For yet this vessel's fault is fear --
Courses deep through every vein,
Staggered ascent -- I cannot steer,
Behold my thoughts, my inner fear;
But onward, forth through la bête noire,
Vict'ry comes to us, wherefore
Find me in my broken chain;
Thy leave is light!

Author's note: "Ad Meliora" is the collective title for a three-part series of poems. Check out the others below!

➤ Part II: "The Hunt for Azure"

Part III: "A Star on Fire"
-----------------------------------

"Ad meliora" is a Latin phrase meaning "(onward) towards better things."

la bête noire = French; literally, "the black beast." Bête noire is figuratively used in English to mean "something that one particularly dislikes, avoids, dreads," etc.
